Walk With Avon to Raise Money in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
All Proceeds Go to Avon's Long Term Charity Partner, Breakthrough Breast Cancer
On 22 May 2008, Avon, the girl-powered beauty brand, will be inviting its 170,000 Representatives and their friends and family to pull on their walking shoes and hit the road on a three mile sponsored walk. All proceeds will go to Avon’s long term charity partner, Breakthrough Breast Cancer. The walk is open to everyone and those interested in taking part should email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and a sponsorship form.
Avon is expecting thousands to take part in eight simultaneous walks across the south of England, which are part of Avon’s “Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer” programme. The eight walks will take place in London, Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge, Cardiff, Exeter, Northampton and Oxford and will start at 12.00pm. Avon is hoping to raise tens of thousand dollars from these walk alone.
Avon, whose name appears on more beauty products than any other brand in the world, has an unmatched commitment to breast cancer charities. Since 1992, Avon UK has raised $28 million in the UK and $525 million globally. These funds have been used for research, education, and towards treatment and aftercare for breast cancer sufferers.
Avon has had an enduring relationship with Breakthrough Breast Cancer. In 1999, Avon raised a third of the funding needed to establish the Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre, the first breast cancer research facility in the UK. Every $12 raised from the walks will pay for a vital blood analysis test - part of Breakthrough’s Generation’s Study- required in order to establish the genetic and hormonal factors that may affect the risk of developing the disease. Says Anna Segatti, President of Avon in the UK and Ireland and a breast cancer survivor; “As the company for women, Avon has long been committed to the breast cancer cause, one of the most important issues in women’s health. Dedication to the cause is embraced by our 170,000 Representatives in the UK and it’s only with their support that we’ve been able to raise such a staggering amount of money for this shattering disease that affects women all over the world. We hope that many people will join us on our walk for breast cancer on 22 May so we can continue supporting Breakthrough.”
