Most of you know that Crazy Eights is a classic card game, the object of which is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in his/her hand. It’s a game where all the 8’s are wild!! The player who is the first to have no cards left wins the game.
Call me “crazy” – a Crazy Eight!! Yes, this year will be my 8th year to participate in the Avon 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer. Like a deck of 52 cards, there are 52 weeks of the year that I can train for this strenuous walk. Like the winner of this crazy card game who has no cards at the end, I will have spent all my energy and used up all my cards when I finish walking 39.3 miles in 2 days. And like the wild crazy 8 card itself, I have to be a little wild and “crazy” to love participating in this challenging and inspiring weekend, April 22nd and 23rd. Matching card for card in the game, and step for step in my walk, we all are hoping to make tremendous strides to end breast cancer.
I walk for myself as an 8-year survivor. I walk for those I have known and loved who did not survive. And I walk for those who have yet to hear those words that they have breast cancer. Let’s get rid of this disease so it doesn’t affect one more person. Deal?!
All of you, partners in my walk, give me both emotional and financial support. I can’t do it without you! You are what motivates me to continue putting one foot in front of the other. Your loving contributions help fund research, awareness, education, screenings, treatment, and provide assistance for families currently battling breast cancer. How awesome is that!
Donating is easy. To make a tax-deduxctible donation, just check out my fundraising page at http://info.avon39.org/goto/CynthiaJBryant. You can also go to avon39.org, click on the three bars in right hand corner, then "donate" button, and enter my name as a walker. Proceed from there. (Or you can always mail me a check made out to Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.)
39.3 miles isn’t easy! You have to be fierce and a little bit “crazy”. But I love it; it’s my favorite weekend of the year. So let’s deal, and shuffle, and win this card game once and for all!
Always with love and gratitude,
