In April 2017 I will walk 39 miles to give others a fighting chance to beat breast cancer. I will walk 39 miles to give my MOM a fighting chance to beat breast cancer. I will also be raising funds on behalf of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. The dollars donated will put food on the table of a breast cancer patient, enable access to mammograms and medicine, fuel research, and save lives!
Other people got cancer until 2012.......My mom faithfully had a routine mammogram every year. For 24 years those mammograms were uneventful, until one of them wasn't. CANCER, infiltrating ductal carcinoma, which had spread beyond its original location and into the surrounding tissue. Luckily my mom's cancer was stage one, her belief in the importance of preventative care gave her an incredible advantage in her fight against breast cancer. My mom chose to have a mastectomy followed by five to ten years of oral cancer medications. My mom is and will win her fight against breast cancer!
I am required to raise at least $1,800 to EARN MY 39, but I plan to raise much, much more! I hope that I can count on your support! You can make a donation right here on my web page by clicking the "Donate Now" button to the right. If you prefer to write a check, click the “Donate By Mail” button and follow the instructions on the form.
I’m walking with thousands of other 39ers. We’re banding together in solidarity and have one goal: to take breast cancer down. AVON 39 is a force of change that can’t be stopped! Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal! Every dollar helps in the fight against breast cancer!
My Personal Web Log
I clearly am not very good at being an active blogger. November somehow came and went and now we are a mere two weeks from Christmas! November was an amazing month for our fundraising campaign as we are inching ever closer to our goal. Every dollar we earn will make an impact on the fight against breast cancer. Who knows maybe in our lifetime we be able to see a world where no one dies from this illness affecting so many. November also saw our family attend our first genetic counseling session. This session confirmed that our odds of being diagnosed with breast cancer are several times higher than the general population which makes this fight so much more important. It also reinforced the importance of being vigilant, getting mammograms and other screenings, and simply taking care of oneself and those around us. Thanks to mother nature my training has officially moved indoors to the treadmill. It appears this winter is going to be a snow filled one for the upper Midwest. Since my treadmill is located in the same room as the Xbox the TV is officially off limits - no one can interrupt Call of Duty - not even someone training to walk 39 miles! Thank goodness for You Tube and the 2104, 2015, and 2016 CrossFit Games. Walking several hours on the treadmill actually goes by quickly as I watch people lift two times my body weight over their head like it is nothing.

Festivus Games, Feeling Blessed, and the Treadmill
**Well Krisi and I took Team Avon39 to the Festivus Games last weekend. We proudly wore our Avon39 white and pink t-shirts and had an amazing time. Not only did we finish 5th in the team competition - but also raised $30 for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade! WOOHOOO!!
**Tonight I am feeling very blessed. I logged on tonight to check donations and address thank you notes to those who have donated and I was overwhelmed by the money that has been raised to date and by the individuals who have donated. Everyday we are getting closer to raising $1800 each. Believe it or not when we started this we actually wondered if we would be able to raise any money at all...the people in our life our so amazing!! Plus I know that the generations behind us will hopefully have access to better treatments and maybe even a cure. So perhaps my mom's generation will be the last in our family to fight breast cancer. Maybe the rest of us will just be able to crush it before it even has a chance!
**I have officially started walking on my treadmill. Last night as I walked three miles it occurred to me that 39 miles is a really long ways. It also occurred to me that my training program requires me walk 18 miles per day on three different occasions. Since we are walking in April most of my training will be done this winter and North Dakota is not really known for its warm January weather. That means I will be spending a really long time on the treadmill in my basement. I am concerned that my on demand movie rental budget is about to skyrocket. Mike was also nice enough to do the math last night to determine how long 39 miles might take us after researching the average walking speed of a person - that was way more information than I needed!

We have officially entered the second week of October - sadly I used my remote car starter last week - that is a sure sign that winter is just around the corner. That means I am about to spend a lot of quality time on my treadmill in my living room training for the Avon39. I anticipate this will cause an epic battle for use of the TV - given that the Xbox happens to also reside in the living room! Reebok has convinced me that I need Cloudride DMX walking shoes in order to walk 39 miles - I love marketing guys and 30% off coupons. I am happy to report that FedEx delivered my new shoes today. I am not going to lie - they are pretty amazing and very comfy. I wonder how long that will last - maybe mile 22 or 23??? The past two weeks have been very exciting - donations have started coming in and lots of conversations have been had about the walk the funds we are raising. Interest from co-workers and others has been amazing!! Well stay warm and look for another update soon.

You've Got Mail!
Our fundraising has officially begun! Fundraising letters were dropped in the mail this morning. Profile pictures on Facebook have been updated with the Avon 39 logo - to be followed shortly by additional fundraising activities. Posters with on-line donation cards go up in offices around town tomorrow. Donation boxes will be out by Wednesday.
Nervously hoping our efforts are successful - raising more funds than required would be an amazing thing - additional funds would provide even more monetary support for research and care of breast cancer patients.
Thanks to everyone who stops by to donate on this page! Your support is greatly appreciated.

Let The Fundraising Begin!
Today was the day!! My team and I got together to begin stuffing envelopes, preparing posters, discussing donation boxes, and getting thank you notes/gifts ready to go. I am so excited that we have found two local businesses that have agreed to let us set up donation jars - nice work Krisi and Mike! The fundraising campaign kicks off the first week of October - given that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month we thought it would be perfect timing. Things are both exciting and scary - my team and I have never attempted such a massive fundraising effort for a cause. I know we can pull this off - but it is still a daunting undertaking. As we got to work I have to give a shout out to Uncle Mike - who played Xbox with Brandon all afternoon to keep him occupied. Trying to play Batman Lego on Xbox can be a bit trying on the patience when your partner is 6!
I am excited to start training for the walk - having a goal to work towards always keeps me motivated. Training program has been printed and I am ready to go. Check back frequently as I will continue to update everyone on all our fundraising and training efforts!
