I am participating in AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer. It won’t be easy, but that’s why it's worth it. This cause is very personal to me. As a teenager, I had to have a surgical breast cancer biopsy; thankfully, that surgery was all I needed. I'm walking this Walk in gratitude and because no one at any age should ever have to worry about this disease.
From now until AVON 39 weekend, I’ll train to strengthen my body to walk over 39 miles in two days. I’ll also be raising funds to crush breast cancer. This is where you come in.
I am required to raise at least $1,800 to EARN MY 39, but I plan to raise much, much more! I hope that I can count on your support!
You can make a donation right here on my webpage by clicking the "Donate Now" button to the right. If you prefer to write a check, click the “Donate By Mail” button and follow the instructions on the form.
Your donations will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. The dollars you pledge will put food on the table of a breast cancer patient and her family. They will enable access to mammograms and medicine, fuel research, and save lives. Need any more reason to click that Donate Now button?
I’m walking with thousands of other 39ers. We’re banding together in solidarity and have one goal: to take breast cancer down. So many sisters and mothers and friends have been lost. We see a world without breast cancer for our daughters and nieces. AVON 39 is a force of change that can’t be stopped. By supporting me with a donation, you’re part of it.

I Did It!
Just had my first mammogram today... I will say I was freaking out a little, especially in the waiting room. I've heard too many horror stories about "The Machine" and "the squeeze", and I was due at 40 years old. I procrastinated HARD - 1.5 years to get the doctor's order and then 60 days to call for the appointment! After all that... I was in and out of the office within 30 minutes - check in, procedure, checkout. Uncomfortable, yes. Painful, no. Lesson learned - just go do it.

Ready. Set. Train!
We've started our official training program!!! For those who plan to donate per training mile, last week, we did a little extra - 14 total miles instead of 12! This week, we are walking 16 miles over 4 walks = three endurance walks at 5 miles each, then two maintenance walks at 3 miles... We are certainly learning a lot - what not to wear, how to fully cover ourselves with sunscreen and bug guard, and the like... - while we explore neighborhoods together and virtually... Thanks again to everyone for being behind us on this effort!

Hi Friend! Thanks for visiting my page... So I'll be posting progress updates as I take this journey! Technically our training plan doesn't start until 16 weeks before the event - so May 21st. But I've already started "soft" training so I can be in the best condition to complete this event safely and successfully! I'll be logging about 4 miles of just "walking around" each day until May 21st, then start the training plan which consists of 5 or more endurance walks (3+ miles consecutively) each week. More to come....
