Throughout life I've always been told, you must pick your battles well I have learned that sometimes you get to pick your battles and sometimes your battles pick you.
I've made the decision to help crush breast cancer by participating in AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer May 5 & 6, 2018 in Washington DC. It is a battle that I am choosing to fight. It will be two days and 39 miles of sore muscles and blisters, but I'm ready to take on the challenge!
I will be walking for all who have stepped up to the fight of their life. I will have the pleasure and honor of walking for and with my best friend and "SinTwister" of over 25 years, Cricket Reed. She and I have been through a lot in the last 25 years We have worked together, been business partners, vacationed together, and done countless numbers of other fun things together. We have all the memories, and laughs to show for it. Nothing in my life has ever scared me more than when I got a called from her in May 2016 and she uttered the words "I have breast cancer". I was falling apart and she was stronger than I had ever heard her, telling me everything that she had facing her as if it were her weekend "To Do List". She was even making jokes that she was finally going to get that 'boob job'. Now here we are over a year later, she has finished treatment and she got that 'boob job'. By the time the Avon39 Walk to End Breast Cancer in Washington DC takes place it will be just a few days short of 2 years since she was diagnosed and stepped up to the fight of her life.
I will also be walking in honor of Becky (Jolliff) Morrell and Margie (Stratton) Williams , who are still fighting their battles. There are countless others that, even though I don't know your name or your story, I will walk for you because you have had to face the battle of your life as well. I will proudly walk in memory of Opal Jolliff, Sharon (Jolliff) King, Barbara (Jolliff) Barham, Marilyn (Jolliff) Sears-Hood, and Janet Lynn Sears all who faced their battles head-on.
As part of the battle, I have chosen to help raise money to End Breast Cancer. The money raised through AVON 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer goes to fund important research and community programs both locally and nationally. This is about saving lives, and helping others win their battle against breast cancer.
